Our children are our future and are a very important part of our plans and a joyous ministry. The following are current ministries for the age groups indicated.

SUNDAY SCHOOL -- A graded program of Bible Study for nursery through High school, Sunday School meets at 9:15am on Sunday, beginning with an opening assembly for the children in the sanctuary.

CHILDREN'S Jr. CHURCH -- More than an extended session of Sunday School, this ministry during the worship service on Sundays is an opportunity for children of preschool age through 5th grade to worship at their own level of understanding, with a variety of experiences.

CALVARY KIDS CLUBS -- This gives the children an opportunity to meet together for Bible Stories, games, crafts, and outings. Meetings are on Wednesdays from 6:15pm to 7:30pm.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR -- The children's choir is a vital part of our children's ministry.  They prepare music for presentations on special occasions and on Sunday mornings from time to time.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL -- A week-long summer Bible study opportunity, this event is one of the most anticipated of the year for children from ages 3 through 6th grade. The particular week varies from year to year.

SUMMER CAMP -- For children entering grades 3 & 4, there is a four day Adventure Camp at our state camp at North Webster. For those entering grades 5 & 6 there is a week-long Junior Camp. Details are usually available in the Spring.

The Funny Side of Parenting

From the kitchen, Mom called to her son who was playing with his friend, "James, I'd like you to take out the trash please?"

James, smugly looked at this friend and then called back to his mother, "What do I get out of it?"

Mom thought for a moment and then replied, "Well, we'll give you food, a place to sleep, and clothe you throughout your entire childhood."

James picked up the trash and started heading out the door mumbling, "I hate it when she puts things in perspective."

Parenting Insight You Can Use Now

Here's a fun idea that came from our elementary age online support group.

"We started a chore system that seems to be working so far.  Basically, you make chore cards for each child, arrange them in a specific order and literally clip them to the child. As the child does the chore, he flips the card to the next one. When done, the child reports to Mom and hands in the clip. It's kind of hard to forget what you are supposed to be doing when your to do list is clipped to you! When I say chores, I mean getting dressed, making their beds, brushing their teeth. We’ll work up to the big stuff in good time.

"So far, they love the cards and I’m not badgering them to do what they need to do. The consequences for not obeying are simple and appropriate. If they skip a job, they go back and do it. If it isn’t done well, we either go over how to do it or they do it over. If they take too long, they lose privilege time – like playtime or TV time. If they really fight me, they get to chill out for awhile until they're ready to hear instruction and complete their jobs. Not really a time out but a “break” – like Turansky/Miller promote."
