Pastor Emeritus Presentation for Reverend Albert Neher
Reverend Albert Neher is awarded the title of Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church. The church called Rev. Albert E. Neher to become its pastor on September 9, 1973. He and his wife Virginia faithfully served the church until his retirement on April 30, 1981. During his time as Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church Rev. Neher led the church to purchase 5 acres of land on West Boulevard as a possible future location should the Lord lead the church to move from the Walnut Street facility which was land-locked, preventing further expansion. Tragically on June 18, 1989 due to faulty electrical wiring, the ceiling and roof of the church on Walnut street burned and upon its collapse destroyed the sanctuary and much of the church beneath. Following the fire, the congregation voted to build on the 5 acre site that was purchased ten years earlier.
Reverend Albert E. Neher was born on February 14, 1916 in Camden In. He met and married Virginia L. Dickson on September 2, 1937 in Jamestown, In. Rev. Neher served in the military from 1942 - 1945 and after his discharge from the service after WW II he went to college and then on to Southern Seminary from where he graduated in 1952. He served churches in Jeffersonville, 1949, Westview church in Indianapolis from 1953-1958. He then served 15 years at the church in Alexandria, In. from 1958 to 1973. He was then called to Calvary Baptist church in Kokomo, In and served there until his "retirement" in 1981.
Rev. Neher then served interim Pastorates in Frankfort, In. and also Union Baptist where he served for 5 years. He and Virginia then moved to Ruskin, Fl to again "retire". After settling in at the Hawaiian Isle Mobile Home Park the people ask them to be the Shepherd of their Park church and they continued to serve there for another 15 years. That church grew in attendance from 109 to 419 during his time of service.
Due to failing health Rev Neher again "retired" and he and Virginia came back to their friends at Calvary Baptist Church in Kokomo where Albert says, "We are waiting for the 'Upper Taker' not the Undertaker.
"May God's love and truth abide and carry you each one to His side and live with Him for ever more. God's blessings always. One privilege afforded me is the honor of being Pastor Emeritus to Calvary"
Sincerely,
Reverend Albert E and Virginia Neher"
